Secure Local PDF Watermarking

100% Offline Processing

Add watermarks locally in-browser. Your tax invoices, corporate contracts, or slides are never uploaded to third-party databases.

Detailed Styling Controls

Set the text, the size, the angle (0 for a level line, 45 for a diagonal), the transparency and the colour.

Nothing Leaves Your Device

Marked-up material is never transmitted, so it stays out of third-party hands — the transfer step that usually causes trouble under GDPR and HIPAA.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a watermark to a PDF offline?
Select your document, enter your desired watermark text, adjust rotation/opacity parameters, and click download. Processing happens in your browser, so there is no upload to wait for.
Can I adjust the transparency of the watermark text?
Yes. The tool features an opacity slider allowing you to make the watermark text translucent (e.g. 0.3 opacity) so it doesn't block underlying document text.
Does watermarking change the quality of my PDF?
No. The watermark is added as new drawing instructions on top of each page, and the existing text and images are left exactly as they were, so nothing is re-compressed.
Is it safe to watermark copy-restricted files?
This tool cannot watermark them. Copy restrictions are stored using PDF encryption, so the tool will show a preview but stops with an error when you apply the watermark, without changing the file. If the restriction is on a document you are entitled to edit, remove it first with Unlock PDF, which handles most protected files though not the AES-128 encryption some Acrobat exports use. Either way, the file never leaves your computer.

Read Guide

A watermark is content drawn over content

The watermark you configure is drawn onto each page above the existing content, at the opacity, size and angle you set, centred on the page. It becomes part of the page, which is why it appears in print and survives being emailed onward.

It is worth being honest about what that achieves. A watermark drawn on top of a page can be removed by anyone willing to open the file in a PDF editor and delete it, and it does nothing to stop someone retyping the text or cropping the mark out of a screenshot. Its real value is as a clear statement of ownership, draft status or confidentiality — a deterrent and a label, not a security control.

Making a watermark that reads well

  • Opacity is a balance. Faint enough to read through, strong enough to notice. Somewhere around a quarter opacity suits most documents.
  • Text underneath stays selectable. The watermark does not obscure the content from copying, only from a clean visual reading.
  • Standard fonts only. Latin characters render; other scripts do not.
  • The mark can be deleted. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. If a document genuinely must not circulate, control access to the file rather than labelling it.

Drafts, confidentiality and attribution

Can a watermark be removed from my PDF?
Yes, by someone with a PDF editor and a little patience. It is drawn content like any other. Treat a watermark as a label that makes redistribution obvious, not as protection.
Should I watermark before or after adding a password?
Watermark first, then protect. Encryption has to be the last step, because the file needs to be readable for any further editing to happen.
Will the watermark appear on every page?
Yes, it is applied across the document so that no single page can be extracted without carrying the mark.
