Reordering builds a new page sequence

Dragging thumbnails into a new order does not shuffle pages inside the original document. When you export, a fresh document is created and your pages are copied into it in exactly the sequence shown on screen. The thumbnail order is the output order, one to one.

Because each page is copied whole, the content is unchanged: the same text, the same images, the same embedded fonts, simply arranged differently. Nothing is re-rendered, so reordering a scanned document costs it no image quality.

What moves and what does not

  • Internal links point at positions, not at pages you moved. A link that targeted the fourth page still targets the fourth page — which is now a different page.
  • Printed page numbers stay where they were printed. They are part of the page content, so a reordered document can read 1, 5, 2, 3 until you renumber it.
  • Bookmarks are dropped during the rebuild, as they belong to the document rather than to the pages.
  • Very long documents are limited by thumbnail rendering rather than by the reordering itself, since every page has to be drawn once to be shown.

Working with longer documents

Does reordering re-compress my pages?
No. Pages are copied as complete objects, so images keep their original compression and text keeps its original fonts. The operation is lossless.
Can I reverse the order of an entire document?
Yes, by dragging pages into the reverse sequence. The export follows whatever order the thumbnails are in when you click through.
Should I renumber after reordering?
If the pages carry visible page numbers, yes — those were drawn into the content and will now be out of sequence. Add fresh numbering once the order is final.
