Are my signatures or signed documents stored?
No. Your signature drawings, uploaded image assets, and signed documents are kept strictly in your temporary browser memory. Nothing is ever sent to our servers.
Can I sign invoices and contracts offline?
Yes. Once PDFCraft is loaded or installed as a PWA, the signing canvas and editor function completely offline without internet connectivity.
What signing options do I have?
You can draw a signature freehand using your mouse or touch screen, customize ink color (black, blue, red), or import an image signature directly.

What a signature placed here really is

Your drawn signature is captured on a canvas, exported as a PNG, embedded into the document, and drawn onto the page at the position and size you chose. Typed text boxes are drawn with one of the standard PDF fonts. In both cases the mark is painted on top of the existing page content, which is left exactly as it was.

That has an important consequence worth stating plainly: this is a visual signature, not a cryptographic one. There is no certificate, no key pair, and no tamper-evident hash of the document. It is the digital equivalent of signing a printout — which is what most everyday paperwork actually asks for, but it is not what a regulator means by a qualified electronic signature.

The same overlay behaviour is why drawing a filled box over a name does not redact it. The text is still in the content stream underneath the rectangle, and selecting or copying that region of the page still returns it.

Before you rely on a signature from here

  • Not a certified digital signature. If a contract requires PKI-backed signing, use a service that issues certificates. This tool cannot and does not claim to do that.
  • Covering is not removing. To take content out of a document rather than hide it, the content has to be deleted at the page level, not painted over.
  • Typed text uses standard fonts. Those cover Latin characters and common punctuation. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew and Cyrillic text will not render.
  • Placement is per page. A signature does not repeat across every page automatically; place it on each page that needs one.

Signatures, redaction and what holds up

Is a signature added here legally binding?
That depends entirely on your jurisdiction and on what the specific document requires. Many routine agreements accept a drawn or typed mark showing intent. Anything demanding a qualified or advanced electronic signature needs a certificate authority, which this tool does not provide.
If I draw a black rectangle over sensitive text, is it hidden?
No. The rectangle is drawn above the text, and the text remains in the page content stream. Anyone can select it, copy it, or extract it with a PDF library. Genuine removal requires editing or deleting the content itself.
Can I move or resize the signature after placing it?
Yes, while you are still in the editor. Once you export and download, the mark is baked into the page content and moving it means starting again from the original file.
